NOTES FROM THE STEWARDS
SATURDAY 21ST APRIL, 2018.
STIPENDARY STEWARDS: RICHARD HALFHIDE TYRONE KOWLESSAR DAVID LOREGNARD
The Stewards observed that jockey N. Abrego rider of #5 THE BIG SAINT, placed second, failed to ride out his mount in the final 20 -25 metres and interviewed him in this connection. The jockey claimed that his mount was beaten but the Stewards noted that THE BIG SAINT lost the race by a neck and were of the opinion that his action mitigated against the horse obtaining its best possible placing. Jockey Abrego was adjudged to be guilty of breach of Rule 51.2 of the Rules of Racing and was suspended for the next day of racing.
Jockey W. Leon, rider of #2 DISCOULDRUN was fined $25.00 for failing to report to the Starter at the start.
The Stewards received two (2) objections as follows:
Jockey R. Ali rider of #4 JESSE’S GIRL, placed second, against #2 DISCOULDRUN, the winner, ridden by W. Leon for foul riding throughout the race; and
A. Poon rider of #3 AGAINST THE ODDS, placed third, against DISCOULDRUN for foul riding around the 1000 metre mark.
Having viewed the video replays and heard the jockeys’ evidence the Stewards saw no reason to take action in respect of either claim and allowed the placings to remain unchanged.
RACE 3 N I L
The Stewards observed that #3 CACTUS TREASURE stumbled coming out of the gates.
On viewing the video replay the Stewards noted that jockey N. Samaroo rider of CACTUS TREASURE made excessive use of the whip in the final 150 metres. He was fined $100.00 for the infringement.
The Stewards ordered that #5 COMMANDING FASHION be routine tested.
The Official Veterinarian reported that #4 JUNEAU was withdrawn at the starting gates as the jockey was not comfortable with his mount (Grade 1)
Apprentice O. Mohammed was fined $100.00 for improper use of the whip on #6 PURE INNOCENCE.
Apprentice A. Poon was fined $100.00 for improper use of the whip on #10 BUFFALO SOLDIER.
Jockey N. Patrick rider of #9 THE CANDIDATE, unplaced, objected to #13 LITTLE JOHN, unplaced, ridden by B. Pahal for foul riding in the first 100 metres. After viewing the video replay and having heard the evidence of the jockeys the Stewards found that LITTLE JOHN was ridden sharply across from the outside immediately upon leaving the gates thereby compromising the room of POPPY LOVE and causing a chain reaction to horses in the middle of the field.
The Stewards found jockey Pahal guilty of careless riding and failing to maintain a straight course in the first 100 metres and was fined $150.00 for the infringement.
