NOTES FROM THE STEWARDS
SATURDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER, 2017.
STIPENDARY STEWARDS: RICHARD FREEMAN DAVID LOREGNARD WINSTON GOVIA
Trainer John O’Brien was fined $500.00 for failing to present #6 LORD SILVER, for pre-race examination.
The Stewards conducted an enquiry having noted that #1 MAHA RAJA, placed second, ridden by apprentice Rico Hernandez drifted across the path of #3 GOLDEN BID, placed third, ridden by R. Jadoo within the final 150 metres. Upon interview, apprentice Rico Hernandez stated the horse was lugging in throughout the race.
The Stewards were satisfied that the result was not affected and allowed the results to stand unaltered. However, jockey Rico Hernandez was sternly cautioned to maintain proper control of his mount.
The Official Veterinarian reported that #5 GLORIFY returned lame on the right fore (Grade 4).
On the Starter’s recommendation, the Stewards ordered that #3 HEART OF GLASS must be re-schooled and re-certified before taking entry.
The Stewards received an objection from apprentice O. Mohammed rider of #5 BORN A PRINCE, unplaced, against #6 EMBRACE THE STORM, the winner, ridden by N. Patrick for crossing at the 600 metre mark.
Upon review of the video footage and hearing from the jockeys involved, the Stewards noted that there was a general tightening involving BORN A PRINCE, EMBRACE THE STORM, DOC HOLIDAY and the retreating EZEE BREEZY which resulted in BORN A PRINCE having to be steadied by its jockey. The Stewards were satisfied the interference was accidental, and in any event the result was not affected. Accordingly, the objection was overruled and no other action deemed necessary.
RACE 3 N I L
RACE 4 N I L
RACE 5 N I L
The Stewards received two (2) objections against #4 PEARL SECRET, placed fourth, ridden by N. Patrick as follows:
(i) Jockey H. Emamalie, rider of #3 ILLEGAL PRINCE, placed second, for interference with the first 100
(ii) Apprentice A. Poon, rider of #2 DROGBAR, unplaced, for interference at the 600 metres mark.
In respect of the first objection, the Stewards noted that PEARL SECRET lugged inwards after the start tightening ILLEGAL PRINCE, which was steadied by its jockey.
In respect of the second objection the Stewards noted that PEARL SECRET lugged inwards continually and tightened DROGBAR which was checked by its jockey.
Upon consideration of the objections, the Stewards allowed the result to stand taking into the account, that in the first incident, ILLEGAL PRINCE finished ahead of PEARL SECRET, and in the second incident the interference did not affect the result.
In light of PEARL SECRET’s continuous habit of lugging inwards in its races, the Stewards advised its trainer Ramroop that the horse will be monitored to ensure it’s actions do not pose a danger when racing.
The Official Veterinarian reported that #1 LEGACY OF HOPE returned lame on the right fore (Grade 4).
The Stewards received an objection from jockey N. Patrick, rider of #1 SUNSET CLOUD, placed second, against #5 REGGAE RHYTHM, the winner, ridden by R. Ali, for foul riding in the home straight.
Upon review of the video footage and hearing from the jockeys involved the Stewards noted that REGGAE RHYTHM and SUNSET CLOUD bumped each other several times inside the final 200 metres. In the view of the Stewards both horses drifted off a straight line in the final 200 metres but with REGGAE RHYTHM being more culpable for the incidents. Upon consideration of the matter the Stewards were satisfied the result was not affected and allowed the results to stand but fined jockey R. Ali $300.00 for careless riding.
The Stewards conducted an enquiry into the running of #9 HEAT OF THE MOMENT, having noted that it broke slowly, was taken over to the rail and was continuously restrained by its jockey throughout the race. Trainer L. Alexis was summoned and was asked what instructions were given to jockey Thomas. He stated that Thomas had ridden this horse several times before and he considered that since he knew the horse, to ride him accordingly and that the race had speed to run at.
Upon interview, jockey Thomas told the Stewards that the horse was lugging out throughout the race which prevented him from riding out the horse. The Stewards were not satisfied with jockey Thomas’ explanation and found him in breach of Rule 51 (2). Accordingly, jockey Thomas was suspended for the next ten (10) days of racing and the matter referred to the Authority for such further action as may be warranted.
In addition and in accordance with Rule 5 (h) HEAT OF THE MOMENT has been suspended from running for a period of thirty (30) days.
Trainer Jimmy Rampersad was fined $50.00 for incorrect colours on #2 WONDER GIRL.
On the recommendation of the Official Veterinarian, the Stewards ordered #6 YABBA DABBA DOO to be routine tested.
